KANSAS CITY, MO — Kansas City is heading toward an unusually mild finish to the third week of October, with afternoon temperatures expected to climb into the upper 70s and overnight lows approaching 60 degrees. The warm stretch arrives ahead of NOAA's Oct. 26–Nov. 1 outlook, raising questions about whether the milder pattern could continue into November.
According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, the eight to 14 day outlook issued Sunday, Oct. 18, covers Monday, Oct. 26, through Sunday, Nov. 1. The outlook evaluates average temperatures and total precipitation over that period. Specific temperature and precipitation probability categories for Missouri require confirmation from the corresponding national maps.
Kansas City Temperatures Climb Toward 80 Degrees The National Weather Service office in Pleasant Hill forecasts a steady warming trend across Kansas City during the current week, with temperatures rising from approximately 70 degrees Monday to 78 degrees Thursday.
Monday, Oct. 19, is expected to bring increasing clouds and a high near 70 degrees. Tuesday's forecast calls for increasing clouds again, with temperatures reaching approximately 72 degrees.
By Wednesday, sunshine returns with a high near 75 degrees, followed by another sunny afternoon Thursday with temperatures around 78 degrees.
The warm conditions are expected to persist Friday and Saturday, with highs near 78 degrees both days. Sunday's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 76.
For residents across Jackson County and the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, the forecast offers several opportunities for outdoor activities without the colder afternoon conditions commonly associated with late autumn.
Warmer Nights Accompany the Afternoon Heat One of the more noticeable developments is the gradual increase in overnight temperatures.
Kansas City begins the week with nighttime readings in the upper 40s. Monday night's low is forecast near 49 degrees, increasing to 53 Tuesday night and 55 Wednesday night.
By Thursday night, temperatures may remain around 57 degrees, with lows near 60 Friday night and 59 Saturday night.
At Kansas City Downtown Airport, the temperature was 49 degrees early Monday, with fair skies, 80% humidity and a light north wind.
The warming overnight trend could make mornings feel considerably milder by the end of the week, although daily temperature changes remain possible.
What the November Weather Outlook Means The transition into November remains the next important forecasting question for western Missouri.
The CPC's extended outlook covers Oct. 26–Nov. 1, a separate period from the local daily forecast currently available through Sunday, Oct. 25.
Although the near term forecast clearly establishes a warm stretch, it does not determine whether temperatures will remain above normal during the extended period.
The precipitation outlook also needs separate verification. Several sunny days this week do not establish whether western Missouri will experience above or below normal rainfall during the following week.
Residents should watch subsequent National Weather Service updates for more precise daily temperatures, potential rainfall and any changes in the pattern approaching November.
For now, Kansas City can expect a notably mild week, with highs approaching 80 degrees and nighttime temperatures rising toward 60 before the extended outlook period begins.
Would you welcome more 70 degree afternoons into November, or are you ready for colder fall weather in Kansas City?
