Fenton, MO – A 71 year old Missouri man is facing first degree murder charges following a deadly shooting in Jefferson County that investigators believe began as a road rage incident Friday evening.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff 's Office, Michael F. Miller, 71, of Fredericktown , has been charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in the 10 block of Ashwood Drive in Fenton on Friday, Oct. 9.
Sheriff Dave Marshak announced the arrest and charges as investigators continued examining the circumstances surrounding the homicide in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area.
Deputies Find Victim Dead at Scene
Deputies were dispatched to the location around 7:30 p.m. Friday following reports of a shooting.
When the first responding deputy arrived, authorities said the victim was found deceased with apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators reported that Miller was still at the scene when deputies arrived and was detained.
According to the sheriff's office, Miller subsequently admitted to the shooting, and investigators said his account was corroborated by a witness statement.
Authorities believe the confrontation began with a road rage incident, although additional details about what led to the shooting were not provided.
Suspect Held Without Bond
Miller was taken into custody without incident and is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail .
The sheriff's office credited Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Trisha Stefanski and her staff for quickly obtaining an in custody warrant.
Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and said there is no ongoing danger to the public.
The victim's identity was not included in the sheriff's office announcement.
Miller faces formal criminal charges, but those allegations have not been proven in court. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
