MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Bright sunshine and unusually warm October temperatures will give way to a sharp cooldown across Minneapolis this week, with afternoon highs falling 22 degrees between Sunday, Oct. 11, and Tuesday, Oct. 13.
According to the National Weather Service, Minneapolis will reach approximately 87 degrees Sunday before temperatures drop to 65 Tuesday. The shift could catch residents off guard after a stretch of summerlike warmth.
Sunday brings sunny skies and south southwest winds near 10 mph. Temperatures remain mild overnight, with lows around 68 degrees as clouds gradually increase.
Monday, Oct. 12, brings another warm afternoon, with temperatures reaching 82 degrees. However, a developing weather change introduces a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m.
Rain chances increase Monday night, particularly after 1 a.m., when showers and thunderstorms become possible. The National Weather Service places precipitation chances at 40%, with temperatures falling to approximately 55 degrees.
Tuesday marks the most noticeable temperature change. Highs reach only 65 degrees under partly sunny skies, roughly 17 degrees cooler than Monday.
Residents heading to work or school Tuesday should prepare for cooler morning conditions and a noticeably different afternoon compared with the weekend.
The broader hazardous weather outlook also identifies elevated fire weather concerns from warm, dry and windy conditions during the preceding Saturday. Near critical conditions were highlighted around Buffalo Ridge in southwestern Minnesota.
No additional hazardous weather was expected Sunday through Friday in that outlook.
Five Day Outlook: Wednesday, Oct. 14, remains mostly sunny with a high near 64 degrees. Showers become possible overnight, with a 30% precipitation chance.
Thursday brings a 50% chance of showers and a high near 62 degrees.
Friday turns breezy, with northwest winds gusting up to 30 mph and temperatures reaching 57 degrees.
Saturday remains cooler, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 56 degrees.
