MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Twin Cities will experience a chilly start to the weekend, with frost possible Saturday morning before temperatures climb steadily toward 70 degrees by Tuesday, Oct. 20.
According to the National Weather Service, Minneapolis will see temperatures fall into the middle 30s Friday night, followed by a stretch of sunshine and warming afternoon temperatures through early next week.
The shift follows a period of cooler, unsettled weather, including showers expected Thursday and northwest winds gusting up to 30 mph Thursday night and Friday.
Frost Possible Saturday Morning Friday brings a high near 54 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies early before gradual clearing develops.
Northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph could gust as high as 30 mph, adding a noticeable chill to the afternoon.
Conditions turn colder Friday night as skies clear and temperatures drop to approximately 36 degrees.
The National Weather Service specifically identifies areas of frost developing after 5 a.m. Saturday, continuing until approximately 8 a.m.
The forecast presents a potential concern for gardeners and residents with frost sensitive plants, particularly those left outdoors overnight.
Although temperatures are expected to remain above freezing in Minneapolis, frost can develop on exposed surfaces when conditions are favorable.
Saturday's sunshine will help temperatures rebound to around 61 degrees, with southwest winds gusting as high as 30 mph.
Sunshine Brings a Steady Warmup The warming trend continues Sunday, with sunny skies and afternoon temperatures reaching approximately 65 degrees.
South southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph could produce gusts up to 25 mph, keeping conditions somewhat breezy despite the sunshine.
Monday brings another modest increase, with temperatures reaching 66 degrees under sunny skies.
By Tuesday, Minneapolis could reach 70 degrees, representing a 16 degree increase from Friday's projected high.
The extended outlook reflects a transition from chilly, frost prone mornings toward milder autumn afternoons.
NOAA's Weather Prediction Center has also identified a broader pattern change across the central United States late this week as strong high pressure moves south from Canada.
For Minneapolis, the local forecast suggests the coldest conditions will be brief, with sunshine and warmer temperatures dominating the remainder of the five day period.
