MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Twin Cities are heading toward November with a notable October warmup, including a forecast high near 75 degrees Thursday before showers become possible over the weekend. The warmer conditions arrive ahead of NOAA's Oct. 26–Nov. 1 extended outlook, raising questions about how long Minnesota's mild fall weather could continue.
According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, its eight to 14 day outlook issued Sunday, Oct. 18, covers Monday, Oct. 26, through Sunday, Nov. 1. The outlook is intended to identify broader temperature and precipitation tendencies, rather than predict specific daily conditions. Minnesota's probability categories for that period still need confirmation from the corresponding CPC maps.
Twin Cities Temperatures Could Reach 75 Degrees The National Weather Service forecast for Minneapolis shows several days of sunshine and progressively warmer afternoon temperatures during the week of Oct. 19.
Monday is expected to bring sunny skies and a high near 66 degrees. Tuesday follows with another sunny afternoon and temperatures reaching approximately 67 degrees.
By Wednesday, highs are forecast to climb to 70 degrees, with light southwesterly winds and mostly clear conditions continuing into the evening.
Thursday is expected to be the warmest day of the immediate forecast period, with temperatures reaching approximately 75 degrees under sunny skies.
That warmth is particularly noticeable for late October, when Minnesota residents are increasingly preparing for colder mornings and the approaching winter season.
Rain Chances Return Before the Extended Outlook The forecast becomes less settled heading into the weekend, with increasing clouds, stronger winds and opportunities for showers.
Friday is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 69 degrees. Southeast winds could reach 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Friday night brings a 20% chance of showers, followed by a 40% chance Saturday. Saturday's high is expected near 70 degrees, with southerly winds around 15 mph and gusts reaching 25 mph.
A 30% chance of showers continues Saturday night before precipitation chances decrease to 20% Sunday, when temperatures are expected to reach approximately 61 degrees.
At Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport, the temperature was 52 degrees early Monday, with fair skies, humidity at 55% and calm winds.
What Happens as November Begins? The immediate Minneapolis forecast shows a warm midweek peak followed by somewhat cooler conditions and possible weekend rain. However, those developments occur before the Oct. 26–Nov. 1 outlook period.
The CPC's extended temperature and precipitation maps are needed to determine whether the broader pattern favors above normal warmth, cooler conditions or a less certain outcome across Minnesota.
Northern Minnesota, the Twin Cities and southern agricultural communities can experience different fall conditions, making regional forecast distinctions especially important.
Residents should also remember that a warmer than normal extended outlook, if confirmed, would not eliminate the possibility of occasional cold nights.
Updated forecasts will provide more specific information about temperatures, precipitation and potential travel impacts as November approaches.
Would you welcome more 70 degree weather in Minnesota as November arrives, or are you ready for winter temperatures?
