Caribou, Maine – Northern Maine residents should prepare sensitive vegetation for temperatures falling into the 30s Monday night, when clear skies and calm winds could produce frost in colder locations after rain moves out.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, rain will begin early Sunday and persist into Monday morning. Higher amounts are expected across Downeast and far northern Maine, with totals reaching around 0.3 inch in some communities. The rain will provide little meaningful drought relief.
Bar Harbor could receive around 0.32 inch, while Machias reaches 0.28 inch and Eastport 0.24 inch. Farther north, Frenchville could receive 0.17 inch, with Caribou around 0.06 inch and Presque Isle near 0.07 inch.
Attention shifts quickly to colder conditions Monday night. Temperatures could fall to 33 degrees near Estcourt, 35 around Clayton Lake and St. Pamphile, 36 at Dickey and 37 around Presque Isle. Caribou is expected near 40 degrees, but colder rural pockets could experience frost.
Residents in northern areas should cover or move sensitive plants indoors before Monday night. Clear skies and calm winds could also produce valley fog, reducing visibility on low lying roads.
Sunshine returns Tuesday after the rain and Monday night& 39;s frost and fog threat.
