Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin are facing several rounds of rain beginning Monday evening, with some communities potentially receiving up to an inch of precipitation and parts of the Iron Range seeing a few wet snowflakes early Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, rain is expected to develop late Monday, Oct. 26, and continue through Tuesday before ending Tuesday night. Additional systems could bring more precipitation Wednesday night and again Saturday.
The heaviest rainfall from the initial system is forecast across east central Minnesota and portions of northwest Wisconsin.
Communities including Brainerd, Aitkin, Hinckley, Moose Lake and Siren could receive between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain through early Wednesday.
Duluth, Grand Rapids, Walker, Hayward and portions of the North Shore are forecast to receive approximately 0.25 to 0.5 inches.
Farther north, International Falls, Ely and Grand Marais are expected to see lighter amounts, generally between 0.1 and 0.25 inches.
The weather service also indicates that a few slushy snowflakes could mix with rain across portions of the Iron Range early Tuesday morning.
Little to no snow accumulation is expected.
Another quick moving system is forecast to arrive Wednesday evening and continue into early Thursday, bringing additional showers across the Northland.
Rain probabilities could reach 80% to 90% Wednesday night in several communities, including Duluth, Hinckley, Siren and Hayward.
Some locations could receive another half inch of rainfall, with isolated thunder possible.
Drivers should prepare for wet roads, reduced visibility during heavier showers and potentially slick conditions where rain mixes with snow.
Looking ahead, additional showers are possible Saturday, Oct. 31, with rain chances increasing during the evening and continuing into Sunday.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts as precipitation amounts and timing may change.
