Duluth, MN – Frost and freezing temperatures are expected across parts of northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin overnight, with temperatures falling into the 30s by Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, Freeze Warnings are in effect for far northern Minnesota, while Frost Advisories cover the remainder of the Northland. Both alerts run from midnight Thursday night until 9 a.m. Friday.
Low temperatures are forecast to fall into the low to mid 30s across much of the region. Big Falls could reach 31 degrees, while International Falls is forecast near 34 and Bigfork near 32.
Farther south, forecast lows include 35 degrees at Grand Rapids and Aitkin, 38 at Duluth and 36 at Moose Lake. Along Minnesota's North Shore, readings are expected to remain somewhat warmer, including around 40 at Grand Portage and Silver Bay.
Cold conditions are also expected across northwest Wisconsin. Hurley could fall to 30 degrees, while forecast lows include 33 at Hayward and Solon Springs and 35 at Ashland and Phillips.
The weather service's three hour temperature forecast shows northern Minnesota approaching freezing late overnight, with readings around 31 degrees in north central Minnesota by 6 a.m. Friday.
Residents in areas covered by the frost and freeze alerts should take precautions Thursday night to protect sensitive vegetation from the cold.
Temperatures are expected to begin recovering after sunrise Friday, with readings climbing away from their overnight lows by midmorning.
