Duluth, MN – Residents across northern Minnesota are waking up to a chilly Saturday morning, with wind chills dropping into the teens and 20s before temperatures recover later in the day. Gusty southwest winds will add to the autumn chill, although warmer conditions are expected Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, temperatures Saturday, October 17, will climb into the 50s and near 60 degrees across northeastern Minnesota and portions of northwestern Wisconsin. Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected throughout the day.
Cold Morning Across Northern Minnesota
The coldest conditions will occur during the morning hours, particularly across inland communities away from Lake Superior.
Saturday afternoon highs are forecast near 56 degrees in Duluth, 57 in Virginia, 60 in Grand Rapids and 59 in International Falls.
Communities closer to Lake Superior, including Grand Marais and Grand Portage, could remain cooler, with temperatures in the lower to middle 50s.
Residents heading outdoors early Saturday should prepare for noticeably colder conditions than afternoon temperatures might suggest.
Sunday Brings Warmer Temperatures
By Sunday, October 18, temperatures are expected to rise several degrees across much of the region.
Duluth could reach approximately 60 degrees, while Grand Rapids and International Falls are forecast near 64 degrees.
Virginia may reach 61 degrees, with Brainerd approaching 63 degrees.
Southwest winds will continue Sunday at 10 to 20 mph, making for another breezy afternoon despite the warmer temperatures.
What Residents Should Expect
The weekend forecast indicates generally sunny conditions across much of northern Minnesota, providing opportunities for outdoor activities as temperatures gradually improve.
Those attending outdoor events, traveling or spending time near Lake Superior should account for changing temperatures and persistent winds.
