Duluth, MN – Residents across northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin should prepare for several days of wet weather beginning Monday, November 2, as a widespread rain system moves into the Northland.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, rain is expected Monday through Wednesday, November 4, with the greatest chances of precipitation developing Monday evening and continuing into Tuesday.
Forecasters estimate a 50% to 80% probability that many locations will receive more than three quarters of an inch of rain during the three day period.
Rain Chances Increase Monday Evening
The forecast shows rain chances climbing sharply Monday afternoon across much of the region.
In the Twin Ports area, including Duluth and Superior, precipitation probabilities reach approximately 90% Monday evening and 95% overnight into Tuesday.
Similar probabilities are forecast along the Interstate 35 corridor, Iron Range, North Shore and South Shore.
Communities around Brainerd, Grand Rapids and northern Wisconsin also face high chances of rainfall.
Heaviest Rainfall Location Still Uncertain
The National Weather Service cautions that the exact timing of the heaviest rain and the location of the highest rainfall totals remain uncertain.
Forecast probabilities for more than 0.75 inch of rain range from approximately 50% near the Canadian border to around 80% in parts of central Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin.
These probabilities represent the likelihood of reaching that rainfall threshold, not guaranteed rainfall amounts.
Wet Roads Could Affect Travel
Drivers should prepare for reduced visibility, slick pavement and standing water in areas experiencing heavier showers.
Travel along Interstate 35, U.S. Highway 2 and other major routes could be affected during periods of rain, particularly Monday night into Tuesday.
Rain chances are expected to decrease gradually Wednesday, although scattered showers may continue.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts as the system approaches.
