DULUTH, MN — The Duluth area faces a windy Friday followed by a chilly night near freezing before a noticeable weekend warmup pushes temperatures into the lower 60s along western Lake Superior.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, Friday, Oct. 16, will bring mostly sunny skies but persistent north winds of 20 to 25 mph during the morning, gradually decreasing to 15 to 20 mph by afternoon. Gusts could reach 35 mph.
The stronger winds will accompany temperatures struggling to reach 50 degrees, making Friday the coolest afternoon in the five day outlook.
Conditions will change considerably overnight as winds weaken and skies clear. Temperatures are expected to fall to approximately 33 degrees by early Saturday, putting Duluth close to the freezing mark.
Windy Friday Gives Way to a Warmer Weekend Saturday will mark the beginning of a warming trend, with sunshine returning and afternoon temperatures climbing to around 58 degrees.
However, breezy conditions will continue as southwest winds increase to 15 to 20 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 30 mph.
Saturday night will be milder, with temperatures falling to approximately 43 degrees under mostly clear skies.
By Sunday, Duluth will experience another temperature increase, reaching approximately 62 degrees under sunny skies.
Southwest winds around 15 mph could produce gusts reaching 25 mph, keeping conditions breezy despite the warmer temperatures.
Sunshine Continues Into Early Next Week The warming trend follows a broader shift in weather patterns across the central United States.
NOAA's Weather Prediction Center reports that strong high pressure moving southward from Canada will bring cooler conditions to much of the central United States late this week.
For Duluth, the National Weather Service forecast shows the coldest conditions arriving Friday night before temperatures rebound through the weekend.
Monday will remain sunny, with temperatures holding near 62 degrees and considerably lighter west winds around 5 mph.
Tuesday will continue the generally dry pattern, with sunshine and highs near 61 degrees.
The outlook suggests Friday's gusty winds and near freezing overnight temperatures will be the most notable developments before several days of milder weather.
