Duluth, MN – Residents across northeastern Minnesota should prepare for multiple rounds of rain beginning Tuesday, Oct. 27, with some northern communities potentially seeing snow mix with rain during the morning hours. Another round of precipitation Wednesday could bring locally heavier rainfall and isolated thunderstorms before conditions improve later in the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, rain is expected across the region Tuesday, while mixed rain and snow may develop along and north of the Iron Range near the Canadian border during the morning.
Wednesday, Oct. 28, brings another opportunity for widespread rainfall. Forecasters expect precipitation totals generally ranging from one quarter to one half inch, although some locations could receive higher or lower amounts.
A few thunderstorms may also develop Wednesday, adding the possibility of brief periods of heavier rain.
The National Weather Service's regional precipitation outlook shows rain probabilities climbing to approximately 78% late Wednesday, following another period of elevated rain chances Tuesday.
Temperatures will remain relatively cool early in the week, with regional readings beginning near 36 degrees Tuesday morning before climbing into the upper 40s.
Wednesday afternoon temperatures could reach approximately 59 degrees before cooling overnight.
Thursday, Oct. 29, and Friday, Oct. 30, should bring a noticeable break from the wet weather. Rain chances decrease substantially, with regional afternoon temperatures reaching the lower to middle 50s.
Friday morning could bring temperatures near 37 degrees before conditions warm later in the day.
Additional rain chances develop Saturday, Oct. 31, and continue into Sunday, Nov. 1, when regional precipitation probabilities could approach 40% to 45%.
Motorists traveling along Interstate 35, U.S. Highway 53 and northern Minnesota highways should remain alert for wet pavement and changing visibility during periods of rainfall.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts as the timing and coverage of precipitation become clearer.
