Bemidji, Minnesota – Temperatures in the mid 30s could produce frost overnight across northern Minnesota, threatening sensitive plants through Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a frost advisory takes effect at midnight and continues until 8 a.m. Tuesday for Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, North and South Beltrami, and North and South Clearwater counties.
The advisory includes Bemidji, Baudette, Red Lake, Park Rapids, Bagley and Lake Itasca. Residents across those communities should protect tender vegetation before temperatures fall overnight.
Frost could develop as temperatures drop into the mid 30s. Sensitive outdoor vegetation could be damaged, and plants left uncovered may be killed.
The advisory stretches from Lake of the Woods south through the Bemidji and Park Rapids areas, putting gardens and other cold sensitive vegetation at risk across a broad section of northern Minnesota.
The National Weather Service advises residents to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. Covering vulnerable vegetation before midnight can help limit exposure during the coldest part of the night.
The frost threat continues into the Tuesday morning hours. Residents in Hubbard, Lake of the Woods, Beltrami and Clearwater counties should keep sensitive vegetation protected until the advisory expires at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
