Marquette, MI – Temperatures will fall sharply across Upper Michigan through Saturday morning, with patchy frost possible first and a more widespread hard freeze expected by Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, temperatures tonight into Friday morning will fall near freezing, particularly across the western interior. Lows there are forecast from 29 to 35 degrees, while most other locations should remain between 35 and 45.
Frost is possible in sheltered parts of the interior west Friday morning. However, consistent northwest winds are expected to limit how widespread frost becomes overnight.
Friday will remain cool, with highs ranging from 55 to 63 degrees. The NWS said eastern Upper Michigan has up to a 25% chance of light lake effect rain during the day.
The colder and more widespread freeze threat arrives Friday night into Saturday morning.
A hard freeze is expected across much of the interior, where temperatures are forecast to fall into the 20s and lower 30s. The NWS forecast graphic shows lows generally ranging from 22 to 32 degrees across interior areas, while communities closer to the Great Lakes should remain mostly in the 30s.
Forecast lows shown on the NWS map include readings near 23 degrees around Iron River and 27 degrees near Ironwood and Newberry early Saturday. Marquette is shown near 38 degrees, illustrating the moderating influence of Lake Superior along parts of the shoreline.
The forecast represents a progression from a limited frost risk Friday morning to substantially colder conditions by Saturday morning. Residents across interior Upper Michigan should expect the most widespread freezing temperatures during the second cold night.
