Marquette, MI – Upper Michigan residents face a noticeable change in weather Monday, October 12, as cooler autumn conditions return across the Upper Peninsula, bringing a wide temperature difference between northern and southern communities and the possibility of rain and thunderstorms overnight.
According to the National Weather Service NWS in Marquette, temperatures Monday will range from the lower 50s across the Keweenaw Peninsula to the middle and upper 70s in southern and eastern portions of Upper Michigan.
Monday's highs could vary by as much as 25 degrees across the region , with the coolest conditions expected near Lake Superior and across the Keweenaw Peninsula.
Forecasters expect mostly cloudy skies throughout the day, with occasional drizzle or light rain possible in the Keweenaw area.
While southern and eastern communities could experience afternoon temperatures reaching 77 degrees, northern locations will remain considerably cooler as more typical mid October weather returns.
Rain chances increase Monday night into early Tuesday , when scattered light showers and isolated thunderstorms could develop across portions of Upper Michigan.
Overnight lows are expected to fall between 40 and 55 degrees, with the coolest readings across northern areas.
Although thunder is possible, the NWS forecast does not indicate a widespread severe weather threat.
Tuesday, October 13, brings another cooler day across the region, with afternoon highs ranging from 52 to 67 degrees. The warmest conditions are expected farther south, while northern communities remain cooler.
By Tuesday night, temperatures will drop further, with overnight lows forecast between 36 and 46 degrees.
Residents traveling across the Upper Peninsula, particularly along U.S. 41, U.S. 2 and other regional highways, should remain alert for wet pavement and reduced visibility during any overnight showers.
The cooler conditions are expected to persist into midweek, bringing a more seasonal October pattern following Monday's warmer temperatures in southern and eastern areas.
