Marquette, Michigan – A frost advisory remains in effect for much of the region as cold temperatures arrive, lasting from 2 a.m. EDT / 1 a.m. CDT on Monday, September 14, 2026, until 9 a.m. EDT / 8 a.m. CDT on Monday, September 14, 2026. Residents across several counties should prepare for chilly conditions overnight this Sunday, September 13, 2026, which may impact outdoor gardening and sensitive foliage.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, MI, the advisory spans a wide geographic area. For Baraga, Gogebic, and Iron counties, which include the cities of Ironwood, Iron River, and L'Anse, temperatures are expected to drop as low as 29 degrees. Additionally, a separate frost advisory covers Ontonagon, Dickinson, and Southern Houghton counties, including the cities of Sidnaw, Ontonagon, Kenton, and Iron Mountain, where temperatures are forecast to fall as low as 30 degrees.
The primary concern during this period is the formation of frost, which could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Weather officials emphasize that plants left uncovered face a significant risk and may be killed by the cold temperatures expected during the overnight and early morning hours of Monday, September 14, 2026.
Precautionary and preparedness actions are strongly advised for those with vulnerable landscaping. Residents are encouraged to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold before the temperatures reach their forecasted lows. Covering these plants can act as an insulating layer against the incoming frost.
The National Weather Service issued these urgent weather messages at 1:03 p.m. EDT on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Officials advise the public to stay informed and monitor local updates as the cold front moves through the specified Michigan counties throughout the early morning hours on Monday, September 14, 2026.
