MARQUETTE, MI — Michigan could head into November with warmer than normal temperatures favored across much of the state, including the Upper Peninsula, as a new federal outlook suggests fall warmth may linger longer than usual. The Oct. 26–Nov. 1 forecast also points toward regional differences in precipitation, with a drier tendency across much of Lower Michigan.
According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, the eight to 14 day outlook issued Sunday, Oct. 18, places most of Michigan within an area favoring above normal temperatures for Oct. 26–Nov. 1. The strongest warmth probabilities are concentrated across the Lower Peninsula, while portions of the Upper Peninsula show a weaker or less certain signal.
Lower Michigan Shows Strongest Warmth Signal Across southern and central Lower Michigan, including Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, the outlook generally favors above normal temperatures with probabilities around 60%–70%, locally approaching higher bands.
Northern Lower Michigan, including Traverse City and areas near the Straits of Mackinac, also favors above normal temperatures, although the probability signal varies across the region.
The Upper Peninsula presents a more complicated picture. Marquette and much of the central and eastern Upper Peninsula lie near a transition between the above normal temperature region and areas with weaker signals. Farther west, confidence in unusual warmth decreases.
That distinction matters because Michigan's two peninsulas can experience considerably different late October weather. Lake Superior influences temperatures around Marquette, while inland locations may cool more sharply overnight.
The outlook does not establish specific temperatures, record highs or the absence of freezing nights.
Marquette Forecast Offers a Mild October Preview Before the extended outlook begins, the National Weather Service forecast for Marquette indicates several days of relatively mild, mostly dry weather.
Monday, Oct. 19, is expected to be sunny with a high near 58 degrees. Tuesday brings sunshine and a high around 62, followed by a warmer Wednesday with temperatures reaching approximately 66 degrees.
The forecast also indicates highs near 61 Thursday and Friday, with Saturday reaching around 63 before Sunday settles near 60.
Overnight temperatures are forecast mainly in the 40s, with lows around 40 Monday night and near 50 Friday and Saturday nights.
At Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport, the supplied observation showed 41 degrees shortly after 4 a.m. Monday.
These daily predictions cover Oct. 19–25 and should not be extended automatically into the following week.
Precipitation Outlook Varies Across Michigan NOAA's precipitation map shows below normal precipitation favored across much of Lower Michigan during Oct. 26–Nov. 1.
However, the Upper Peninsula lies closer to a transition between below normal and near normal precipitation, making the extended rainfall outlook less definitive around Marquette.
For residents across Lower Michigan, the combination of favored warmth and a modest dry signal could support a relatively mild transition into November. Across the Upper Peninsula, the temperature and precipitation patterns carry greater uncertainty.
As November begins, updated local forecasts will help determine whether Michigan experiences several noticeably warm afternoons or a more variable pattern with occasional chilly nights.
