Macomb Township, MI – Two drivers were killed late Tuesday in a head on collision on 23 Mile Road in Macomb Township, according to the Macomb County Sheriff ’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded at approximately 11:18 p.m. Tuesday to a two vehicle crash on 23 Mile Road at Lancelot Drive in Macomb Township.
A preliminary investigation found that a black Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on 23 Mile Road without its headlights illuminated, authorities said. The pickup subsequently crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head on with a white Chevrolet Express van.
Each vehicle had only its driver inside at the time of the collision.
The driver of the Chevrolet Express, identified by authorities only as a 30 year old man from Macomb Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Silverado driver, a 60 year old Harrison Township man, was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The sheriff’s office said he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities had not released the names of either driver as of Wednesday morning.
The collision occurred in Macomb County, northeast of Detroit. The sheriff’s office said its investigation remains ongoing, and the preliminary findings do not represent a final determination of what caused the crash.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office also issued a warning following the fatal collision about fraudulent social media posts claiming to have video of the crash. Officials said any posts offering video for viewing or sharing are not affiliated with the sheriff’s office and may be spam or automated activity.
Authorities advised residents not to click suspicious links or interact with questionable accounts claiming to have footage of the crash.
