Harrison Township, MI – Three people have died after a boat capsized near MacRay Harbor in Macomb County, triggering an overnight search and rescue operation that ended with authorities recovering three individuals from a submerged vessel early Thursday morning.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at approximately 10:48 p.m. after receiving a report of a capsized boat near MacRay Harbor in Harrison Township, northeast of Detroit.
Investigators said the accident reportedly occurred around 8 p.m., several hours before emergency crews arrived.
One passenger aboard the vessel managed to swim to shore following the accident. A nearby resident then called 911 to report the emergency.
Deputies from the sheriff's Marine Division responded alongside members of the department's Underwater Search and Rescue Team.
Emergency crews began searching the water for additional individuals believed to have been aboard the vessel when it capsized.
At approximately 5 a.m. Thursday, October 8, members of the underwater rescue team recovered three individuals from the submerged boat.
All three were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.
Authorities have not released the identities or ages of the victims, and the circumstances that caused the vessel to capsize remain under investigation.
The sheriff's office also has not provided additional information about the surviving passenger's condition.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office expressed condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the tragedy.
Investigators said additional information would be released as it becomes available.
The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities work to determine what led to the deadly boating accident.
