Grand Rapids, MI – Wet pavement, chilly morning air and gusty winds are giving way to a November warmup across West Michigan. Temperatures could reach 61 degrees Tuesday before plunging toward 30 degrees Thursday night, creating a 31 degree temperature swing.
The developing pattern offers several mild afternoons before near freezing conditions return late next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, Saturday begins with decreasing clouds and temperatures climbing toward 51 degrees.
Early observations at Gerald R. Ford International Airport showed 39 degrees with light rain, fog and mist.
Northwest winds between 3 and 8 mph could produce gusts approaching 20 mph.
Sunday Winds Could Reach 32 MPH Sunday brings partly sunny skies and temperatures reaching approximately 57 degrees.
However, west southwest winds between 10 and 16 mph could produce gusts as high as 32 mph.
Those stronger winds may become noticeable along exposed roadways and open areas throughout Kent County.
Drivers traveling Interstate 96, Interstate 196 and U.S. Route 131 should remain attentive, particularly when operating larger vehicles.
Loose decorations and lightweight outdoor items should be secured before stronger gusts develop.
Tuesday Brings the Warmest Temperatures Monday continues the mild trend, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures near 57 degrees.
Winds should remain relatively light, although gusts could reach 20 mph.
Tuesday looks even warmer, with sunshine pushing temperatures toward 61 degrees.
That creates favorable conditions for homeowners finishing leaf cleanup, clearing gutters and preparing outdoor spaces for colder November weather.
Veterans Day should remain partly sunny, with temperatures reaching approximately 54 degrees.
Thursday Night Brings Near Freezing Temperatures The most noticeable temperature change arrives later in the week.
Thursday's afternoon high should reach approximately 49 degrees before temperatures fall toward 30 degrees Thursday night.
That marks a 31 degree difference from Tuesday's projected high.
Sensitive plants could be vulnerable if temperatures reach or fall below freezing.
Drivers should also remain aware that wet pavement can become slick when temperatures drop below freezing, although no flash freeze event is currently forecast.
The supplied outlook shows no accumulating snow or significant storm system through Friday.
No tornado threat is indicated.
Looking toward Thanksgiving, additional cold fronts could eventually bring opportunities for winter precipitation. However, specific snowfall threats remain uncertain.
For now, West Michigan's biggest weather developments are Sunday's gusty winds, Tuesday's mild temperatures and Thursday night's colder conditions.
