GAYLORD, Mich. – A taste of fall is headed for northern Michigan, where temperatures could tumble into the upper 30s Thursday night before a rapid warmup sends some communities back into the 80s Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, showers have moved out of northern Michigan, and rain free conditions are expected through at least the end of the workweek.
Temperatures tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 9, are forecast to fall into the 49 to 60 degree range. Cooler air settles across the region Thursday, with afternoon highs expected to reach only 66 to 75 degrees.
The bigger temperature drop arrives Thursday night. Forecast lows range from 39 to 50 degrees, with the typical colder locations of interior northern Michigan potentially dipping into the upper 30s and lower 40s.
Residents heading out early Friday may notice a distinctly fall like chill, especially away from the Great Lakes.
The cooldown will not last long.
Friday is expected to be sunny and considerably warmer, with highs ranging from 76 to 82 degrees. Friday night lows should remain between 52 and 61 degrees.
Saturday will bring another warm day, with highs of 75 to 82 degrees. Temperatures Saturday night are forecast to fall into the 48 to 57 degree range.
By Sunday, highs should ease back to between 69 and 77 degrees as the next opportunity for rain approaches northern Michigan.
The dry stretch through the end of the workweek should provide favorable travel and outdoor conditions around Gaylord, Otsego County and northern Michigan. However, residents planning weekend activities should continue checking forecasts as rain chances return.
