Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan residents can expect an extended stretch of unusually mild October weather this week, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the 60s and mostly sunny skies continuing through Friday, October 23.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a persistent area of high pressure over the Midwest will keep conditions quiet and dry across northern Michigan, allowing temperatures to remain well above seasonal averages throughout the workweek.
The favorable forecast extends across much of northern Lower Michigan, including communities around Gaylord, Traverse City, Petoskey and surrounding areas.
Sunshine and Mild Temperatures Continue Monday, October 19, will begin the workweek with mostly sunny skies and afternoon highs ranging from 59 to 66 degrees.
Tuesday will bring additional sunshine, with temperatures ranging from 56 to 67 degrees across the region.
By Wednesday, mostly sunny conditions will continue, with afternoon highs between 61 and 66 degrees.
Thursday is expected to remain dry and mostly sunny, with temperatures reaching 57 to 67 degrees.
The mild pattern will continue Friday, when afternoon temperatures are forecast between 56 and 65 degrees.
High Pressure Keeps Rain Away The National Weather Service attributes the extended period of quiet weather to high pressure remaining settled over the Midwest.
This pattern is expected to limit precipitation and provide several consecutive days of favorable outdoor conditions.
For residents planning fall yardwork, outdoor recreation or scenic drives, the forecast offers a stretch of relatively comfortable October weather.
The dry conditions could also benefit agricultural activities and other outdoor projects across northern Michigan.
What Residents Should Expect Although afternoon temperatures will remain above average, conditions may still feel cooler during the morning and evening hours.
Residents traveling across northern Michigan should also remember that temperatures can vary between inland communities and locations near the Great Lakes.
For now, forecasters expect the mild and dry weather pattern to continue through Friday, with no significant precipitation highlighted in the outlook.
