Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan residents could see the season's colder weather make another appearance late this week as a passing cold front brings widespread rain chances, breezy conditions and the possibility of snow mixing with rain Thursday night into Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a large weather system slowly moving across the Great Lakes will continue producing showers Wednesday night, Nov. 4, and throughout Thursday, Nov. 5.
Forecasters expect winds to increase Thursday as a cold front pushes through the region, bringing noticeably cooler temperatures heading into Friday.
Rain Chances Reach 90% Thursday
Thursday afternoon temperatures are expected to reach between 52 and 57 degrees across northern Michigan.
However, precipitation chances will increase to between 60% and 90% as the weather system moves through.
Residents traveling along northern Michigan highways should prepare for wet pavement, occasional reduced visibility and breezy conditions.
Rain Could Mix With Snow Friday Morning
Behind Thursday's cold front, temperatures will fall considerably.
Friday, Nov. 6, highs are expected to range from just 41 to 49 degrees, approximately 10 degrees cooler than Thursday in some locations.
The National Weather Service says colder air could allow rain to briefly mix with snow Thursday night into Friday morning.
Precipitation chances Friday remain elevated at 50% to 90%.
Despite the possibility of snowflakes, forecasters expect little to no accumulation because ground temperatures remain too warm.
Dry Saturday Before More Rain Sunday
Conditions should improve Saturday, Nov. 7, with partly cloudy skies, highs between 44 and 52 degrees and no precipitation currently expected.
Sunday, Nov. 8, will bring slightly milder temperatures ranging from 49 to 58 degrees, along with a 20% chance of rain.
Drivers and residents planning outdoor activities should prepare for changing conditions Thursday and Friday, particularly during the colder early morning hours.
