Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan could experience record challenging warmth Wednesday, October 28, as afternoon temperatures climb into the 60s and lower 70s before showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms arrive overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, partly to mostly sunny skies will help temperatures reach between 63 and 73 degrees Wednesday, with some locations potentially challenging daily high temperature records.
The unusually warm conditions will provide another mild fall afternoon across northern Lower Michigan and portions of eastern Upper Michigan.
However, the pleasant weather will begin changing Wednesday night as showers return to the region.
Forecasters indicate that a few thunderstorms are also possible, although thunder chances remain limited.
Thursday, October 29, will bring additional showers before conditions gradually improve later in the day.
Afternoon temperatures Thursday are expected to range from 51 to 70 degrees, depending on location.
Some sunshine could return Thursday afternoon as rainfall tapers and the weather system moves away.
By Friday, October 30, cooler conditions will become more noticeable, with highs ranging from 49 to 61 degrees.
Despite the temperature drop, the National Weather Service expects readings to remain above seasonal averages.
For Halloween on Saturday, October 31, northern Michigan can expect partly cloudy skies with afternoon temperatures between 53 and 62 degrees.
The forecast does not indicate a significant rainfall threat for Saturday, potentially providing favorable conditions for Halloween celebrations and trick or treating.
However, temperatures will cool after sunset, making jackets or additional layers useful for families spending time outdoors.
Sunday, November 1, could bring another modest warming trend, with afternoon highs climbing between 57 and 65 degrees.
Residents across Gaylord, Traverse City, Petoskey, Alpena and surrounding northern Michigan communities should prepare for showers Wednesday night and Thursday before generally quieter weather returns.
The National Weather Service has not identified a specific severe thunderstorm threat in the supplied forecast.
