Gaylord, MI – A more widespread frost and freeze risk is expected across northern Michigan Monday night, Oct. 5, as temperatures fall as low as the upper 20s.
The National Weather Service in Gaylord said Sunday that only localized frost is possible Sunday night, but a brisk Monday will set the stage for a much greater and more widespread frost and freeze risk Monday night.
Monday will bring a mix of sun and clouds, with afternoon highs ranging from 53 to 61 degrees across the region. Temperatures are then forecast to fall to between 27 and 38 degrees Monday night.
The coldest locations could therefore drop below freezing, making Monday night the most notable weather period in the coming days. The NWS did not indicate in the provided forecast graphic that a Freeze Warning or Frost Advisory was in effect.
Temperatures rebound Tuesday, with highs of 61 to 67 degrees. A few showers are possible late across eastern Upper Michigan and far northern Lower Michigan, with breezy conditions also expected. Tuesday night lows should range from 45 to 53.
Wednesday turns warmer, with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs of 64 to 71 degrees. Breezy conditions are expected before temperatures fall into the 36 to 47 degree range Wednesday night.
For northern Michigan residents with sensitive outdoor vegetation, Monday night's more widespread frost and freeze potential is the main forecast concern to watch
