Detroit, MI – A colder stretch of November weather is settling across Southeast Michigan on Friday, November 6, with northwest winds keeping afternoon temperatures near 50 degrees before some communities experience overnight lows approaching the upper 20s this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, intervals of cloud cover will dominate Friday, while scattered showers remain possible, primarily across Michigan's Thumb region.
Northwest winds will bring a cooler air mass into the region, limiting Friday afternoon highs to approximately 45 to 50 degrees.
Overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the middle 30s, with forecast lows ranging from 33 to 37 degrees.
Saturday will bring another chilly day across Metro Detroit and surrounding communities, including portions of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Genesee counties.
Afternoon temperatures should reach only 49 to 53 degrees, despite periods of partial sunshine.
The colder overnight temperatures will be a concern for residents with sensitive outdoor vegetation.
Forecast lows associated with the weekend cold spell range from 28 to 35 degrees, potentially allowing frost or freezing conditions to develop in colder inland locations.
Residents should consider protecting vulnerable plants and bringing outdoor potted vegetation indoors before temperatures approach freezing.
However, the cooler conditions are not expected to last long.
By Sunday, November 8, temperatures are forecast to rebound into the middle and upper 50s, with afternoon highs ranging from 56 to 59 degrees.
Partly cloudy skies are expected, while overnight temperatures remain cool, generally ranging from 32 to 38 degrees.
The warming trend continues Monday, November 9, when afternoon temperatures could reach 56 to 60 degrees across Southeast Michigan.
Monday night lows are expected to remain milder, ranging from 38 to 44 degrees.
Although scattered showers remain possible across the Thumb on Friday, the National Weather Service does not indicate a widespread heavy rainfall or significant winter weather threat in this outlook.
