Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan is facing a dramatic weather change this week, with temperatures climbing into the lower 80s before plunging more than 20 degrees by Friday. Rain chances will increase midweek, followed by gusty winds and significantly cooler conditions heading toward the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, the week begins unusually warm, with Monday, October 12, bringing afternoon highs between 78 and 82 degrees across the region.
Patchy fog is possible early Monday before sunshine develops. Tuesday will remain warm, with highs reaching 78 to 83 degrees and overnight lows ranging from 60 to 65 degrees. Scattered showers are also possible.
Rain Chances Increase Wednesday and Thursday
By Wednesday, October 14, temperatures will begin falling as cloud cover increases.
Highs are expected to range from 65 to 72 degrees, with cooler conditions across northern portions of southeast Michigan. Rain chances will be greater across southern areas.
Thursday brings another round of unsettled weather, with rain expected across the region and afternoon temperatures reaching only 62 to 67 degrees.
Overnight lows could fall into the middle 40s in some communities.
Friday Brings Wind and Much Cooler Temperatures
The biggest temperature change arrives Friday, October 16, when afternoon highs are forecast to reach just 58 to 61 degrees.
That represents a drop of more than 20 degrees compared with Tuesday's warmest forecast temperatures.
Windy conditions are also expected Friday, along with a chance of showers.
Residents across metro Detroit, including Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, should prepare for changing weather conditions throughout the week.
Drivers may encounter wet roads during periods of rain, while those planning outdoor activities Friday should prepare for cooler temperatures and stronger winds.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to monitor updated forecasts as the timing and intensity of rain and wind could change.
