Detroit, Michigan – Fall begins Tuesday with highs of 62 to 66 degrees across southeast Michigan before nights turn colder and daytime temperatures gradually rebound.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, cool weather will continue Tuesday before a gradual warming trend develops heading into the weekend. Most of the week will remain dry.
A low chance of light rain develops south of Metro Detroit Tuesday night and continues Wednesday. Wednesday temperatures will range from 62 to 70 degrees during the day before falling to between 44 and 53 overnight.
Thursday should bring partly sunny conditions and highs of 64 to 71 degrees. Overnight temperatures will again fall to between 44 and 53.
The chilliest nights shown in the Weather Service outlook arrive toward the end of the workweek. Friday night lows range from 42 to 49 degrees, while Saturday night temperatures could fall as low as 41 to 49.
Those readings remain above freezing, but they will give southeast Michigan a distinctly autumn feel as astronomical fall begins Tuesday.
The warming trend will be most noticeable during the afternoon. Friday highs reach 66 to 70 degrees before climbing to 68 to 72 Saturday. No significant precipitation is indicated in the outlook after Wednesday.
For Metro Detroit residents making outdoor or travel plans, Tuesday's cooler temperatures and the limited chance for light rain south of the metro Tuesday night into Wednesday are the primary short term concerns. Jackets will become more useful after sunset as temperatures fall through the 50s and into the 40s.
Southeast Michigan should remain predominantly dry through the rest of the week, with afternoons gradually warming into the weekend even as overnight temperatures continue to signal the arrival of fall.
