Detroit, MI Event: Dog-Friendly 5K Returns This Saturday

Detroit, MI – Detroit area residents and their four legged companions can hit the streets this Saturday for a heart health focused 5K run and walk in downtown Detroit, Wayne County.
According to the Detroit Police Department , the third annual Heart Diggity Dog 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3 , at DMC Heart Hospital, 311 Mack Ave. Check in begins at 8 a.m. , with the event stepping off at 9 a.m.
The event is designed as a family friendly opportunity to promote heart health while giving participants the option to bring their dogs along for the morning.
Organizers say the event is open to all ages, dog breeds and fitness levels . Dogs are not required to participate, but any dogs attending must remain on leashes.
All registered participants will receive an event T shirt and medal, according to the promotional flyer.
Registration is currently listed at $45 , with the early bird registration period having ended Sept. 18. The flyer notes that online fees are not included in the advertised registration price.
Proceeds from the Heart Diggity Dog 5K will benefit the Detroit Public Safety Foundation , which supports public safety initiatives and programs in the city.
The event is being presented with involvement from the Detroit Police Department, Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan and DMC Detroit Medical Center.
Organizers are encouraging participants from Detroit, Wayne County and the surrounding Metro Detroit area to come out for what they describe as a fun, heart healthy morning downtown.
