Battle Creek, MI – Residents seeking pistol permits or firearm registrations in Calhoun County face unexpected delays beginning Thursday, October 22, after a statewide computer system outage interrupted processing services at the county sheriff 's office.
According to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, the department is temporarily unable to process pistol permits or registrations because of the statewide system outage. Officials said the interruption will continue until Monday, October 26.
Pistol Permit and Registration Processing Interrupted
The sheriff's office issued a public notice Thursday advising residents that pistol related paperwork cannot be processed during the outage.
The disruption affects residents who planned to visit the department for pistol permit or registration services before the weekend.
Although officials described the technical problem as statewide, the announcement specifically confirmed the suspension of services at the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.
The department did not identify the system responsible for the outage or explain what caused the disruption.
Services Expected to Resume Monday
The sheriff's office indicated that processing will remain unavailable until Monday, October 26.
Residents who were planning to complete pistol related paperwork Thursday or Friday may need to postpone their visits until the system becomes available again.
Officials have not announced alternative processing arrangements or provided additional details about whether pending applications will experience further delays.
What Michigan Residents Should Know
Residents in Battle Creek, Marshall and surrounding Calhoun County communities should check with the sheriff's office before traveling for pistol permit or registration services.
People in other Michigan counties may also want to contact their local law enforcement agency to determine whether the statewide system issue is affecting services in their area.
