Nantucket, MA – Residents along Massachusetts' southeastern coastline could face gusty winds, rough ocean conditions and scattered showers Wednesday, Oct. 21, as an offshore storm approaches the region, with Nantucket and Cape Cod expected to face some of the greatest potential impacts.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, forecasters are monitoring an offshore storm that could bring stronger winds, increased wave activity and periods of rain to southeastern Massachusetts during the middle of the workweek.
Wednesday, Oct. 21, is expected to be a particularly windy day , especially across Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, where coastal communities will be more exposed to the developing offshore system.
The agency's latest outlook indicates that rain chances could increase Wednesday afternoon across southeastern Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands.
Temperatures Wednesday are forecast to reach between 54 and 60 degrees across the broader region, with overnight lows ranging from 34 to 45 degrees.
Before the storm's potential impacts increase, Tuesday, Oct. 20, is expected to bring breezy northeast winds and mostly dry conditions, with afternoon highs between 58 and 65 degrees.
Forecasters emphasize that the storm's exact track remains uncertain, meaning the strength of coastal winds, rainfall coverage and rough seas could change as updated forecasts become available.
While coastal communities face the greatest potential impacts, much of inland Massachusetts is expected to remain relatively dry throughout the week.
By Thursday, Oct. 22, breezy conditions will continue as skies gradually clear. Some lingering morning showers remain possible across Cape Cod and the Islands.
Thursday temperatures are expected to reach 56 to 65 degrees before another cool night.
Friday, Oct. 23, brings a colder finish to the workweek , with regional overnight lows potentially falling into the upper 20s in colder inland locations.
Residents, boaters and coastal visitors should monitor updated forecasts, particularly before traveling on exposed coastal roads or heading onto the water.
