Lynn, MA – Two men wanted in connection with the alleged attempted murder of an off duty NYPD detective were captured early Wednesday after a multi day fugitive search spanning New York and Massachusetts, authorities said.
According to Massachusetts State Police, D'Angelo Caraballo, 25, and Sneider Bautista, 24, were found allegedly hiding in the basement of a Lynn residence and arrested without incident at approximately 12:20 a.m. Wednesday.
Investigators received information that the men may have fled to Massachusetts, prompting an extensive search involving multiple addresses and associates across the state. Massachusetts State Police worked alongside the U.S. Marshals Service, NYPD, Lynn Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.
According to the NYPD, Caraballo and Bautista allegedly stabbed an off duty detective seven times during an attempted robbery in the Bronx on Friday, Oct. 2. Police said the pair fled the scene on an e bike.
The detective was taken to a hospital for treatment and released Tuesday, Oct. 6, authorities said.
Following their arrests, Caraballo and Bautista were booked by Lynn police ahead of expected arraignments in Lynn District Court . Authorities said they are expected to be returned to New York, where they face charges including attempted murder.
The operation involved Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section teams and U.S. Marshals regional fugitive task forces in New York New Jersey, Boston and Springfield. Police departments in Springfield, Chicopee and Lynn also assisted.
The charges against the two men are allegations. They are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
