Springfield, MA – Two Chicopee residents face multiple drug trafficking charges after a months long investigation led authorities to seize fentanyl, cocaine, firearms and approximately $150,000 in cash in Western Massachusetts.
According to Massachusetts State Police, investigators with C.I.N.R.E.T. West had been investigating suspected fentanyl distribution before law enforcement agencies executed search warrants in Springfield and Chicopee.
Authorities reported seizing 443 grams of fentanyl, 218 grams of cocaine, two firearms, approximately $150,000 in cash and two vehicles during the operation.
State police identified the two people arrested as Jan Mejia and Michael Angee, both of Chicopee. Authorities allege they were involved in drug trafficking, and both now face multiple trafficking charges.
Mejia also faces several firearm and ammunition charges, according to state police.
The operation involved multiple local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Massachusetts State Police C.I.N.R.E.T. West and the State Police Gang Unit participated alongside the Drug Enforcement Administration& 39;s Springfield Resident Office, Chicopee Police Department and Springfield Police Department.
State police described the arrests and seizures as the result of a months long investigation targeting suspected fentanyl distribution.
Authorities did not immediately provide additional details about the specific charges against each defendant, where the drugs and money were allegedly located or when their next court appearances would occur.
The arrests come as law enforcement agencies continue efforts to target fentanyl trafficking across Springfield, Chicopee and the wider Hampden County region.
The defendants are accused of crimes and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
