Cape Cod, MA – Parts of southeastern Massachusetts received more than 6 inches of rain between Thursday, Nov. 5, and Saturday, Nov. 7, as a prolonged period of heavy rainfall soaked eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, producing localized street flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches were recorded across much of eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, while isolated locations along the immediate southern Massachusetts coast received between 5 and 7 inches.
Heaviest Rain Targets Southern Massachusetts Coast
The most significant rainfall occurred along portions of the south coast, particularly near the Upper Cape Cod region.
National Weather Service observations show localized rainfall totals exceeding 6 inches, with some areas approaching 7 inches during the three day period.
The heavy precipitation produced pockets of street flooding across affected communities.
Rainfall amounts varied considerably over relatively short distances, with some coastal locations receiving several inches more than communities farther inland.
Boston and Eastern Massachusetts See Widespread Rain
The Boston metropolitan area and surrounding eastern Massachusetts communities experienced substantial rainfall, with numerous observations ranging from 2 to 5 inches.
Parts of southeastern Massachusetts recorded some of the highest totals shown in the weather service's regional analysis.
Rhode Island also experienced widespread heavy precipitation, contributing to localized flooding concerns.
Western Massachusetts Receives Much Less Rain
While eastern communities dealt with heavy rainfall, western Massachusetts and western Connecticut generally experienced considerably lighter precipitation.
The National Weather Service reported that totals between 0.25 and 0.75 inches were common across those western areas.
The sharp difference highlights how unevenly rainfall was distributed across southern New England.
Flooding Reported Following Heavy Rain
The National Weather Service confirmed pockets of street flooding associated with the widespread rainfall.
The supplied report does not establish the extent of property damage, road closures or injuries.
Residents should remain cautious around flooded roadways and avoid driving through standing water.
The rainfall analysis covers observations collected through Saturday, Nov. 7, and does not represent a forecast of additional rainfall.
