Boston, MA – Residents across Massachusetts and southern New England should prepare for increasingly breezy conditions heading into Halloween weekend, with wind gusts potentially reaching 30 mph in higher elevations Friday, October 30.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, Wednesday, October 28, will bring one final day of relatively calm weather before a changing pressure pattern allows winds to strengthen across the region.
High pressure is expected to move offshore later Wednesday afternoon, setting the stage for increasing southwest winds Wednesday night and Thursday.
By Thursday, October 29, breezier conditions will develop across Massachusetts, Rhode Island and portions of Connecticut as southwest winds gradually increase.
The strongest winds are expected Friday afternoon, October 30, following the passage of a cold front.
As the front moves through, winds will shift from the southwest to the west, bringing stronger gusts to portions of the region.
Wind gusts could reach approximately 30 mph in higher terrain , particularly across elevated areas of central and western Massachusetts.
Communities around Worcester, Springfield and the higher elevations of the region may experience some of the more noticeable gusts.
Boston, Providence, Cape Cod and other coastal communities will also see breezy conditions, although wind speeds will vary by location.
The National Weather Service's hourly forecast indicates that the strongest gusts are generally expected Friday afternoon, with winds easing in some locations later in the day.
For residents preparing Halloween decorations, outdoor displays or seasonal activities, the increasing winds could make lightweight decorations more difficult to secure.
Motorists traveling on exposed highways and elevated roadways may also notice occasional crosswinds.
The forecast does not indicate widespread damaging winds or an official high wind warning.
Residents should secure lightweight outdoor items and monitor updated forecasts as the cold front approaches.
Additional local wind forecasts are available through the National Weather Service Boston office.
