Boston, MA – Halloween weekend is shaping up to bring a noticeable temperature drop across Massachusetts and southern New England, with chilly nighttime conditions potentially catching trick or treaters off guard. Some communities could see temperatures fall into the 20s and 30s by the end of the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, high pressure will maintain dry conditions across the region through Halloween weekend, while a cold front moving through Friday will bring cooler temperatures Saturday and Sunday.
Warm Thursday Gives Way to a Halloween Chill
Thursday, October 29, will feature a mixture of sunshine and clouds, with breezy southwest winds and afternoon highs reaching the mid 60s to lower 70s.
Friday remains relatively mild, with highs between 65 and 72 degrees and overnight lows ranging from 45 to 55 degrees.
However, the approaching cold front will bring a noticeable change heading into Saturday.
On Halloween, October 31, mostly sunny skies are expected, but afternoon temperatures will only reach 52 to 62 degrees across the forecast area.
Overnight lows are expected to drop into the 30s and lower 40s, with temperatures ranging from 34 to 44 degrees.
Colder Temperatures Arrive Sunday
Sunday, November 1, will remain dry, with a mixture of sunshine and clouds and highs between 55 and 63 degrees.
The colder nighttime temperatures become more noticeable Sunday night, when lows are forecast to fall between 25 and 35 degrees.
These readings could bring freezing conditions to portions of the region, particularly colder inland communities.
For families preparing for Halloween festivities, the forecast offers favorable conditions for outdoor celebrations without significant rainfall concerns.
However, children and adults heading outdoors Saturday evening should consider wearing additional layers beneath costumes as temperatures fall after sunset.
Residents should continue monitoring National Weather Service forecasts for localized temperature changes and any potential frost or freeze advisories.
