Boston, MA – A change in the weather is heading toward Massachusetts tonight, Monday, October 12, as a backdoor cold front pushes south through Southern New England, bringing increasing clouds, cooler temperatures and periods of rain into Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, the approaching front will bring onshore breezes and widespread overcast conditions overnight, setting up a damp and noticeably cooler Tuesday across much of the region.
Rain Chances Increase Tuesday
Cloud cover will build later Monday night as the front moves southward. By Tuesday morning, residents across eastern and central Massachusetts can expect mostly cloudy skies, with rain chances increasing through the day.
The National Weather Service forecast shows rain probabilities reaching approximately 50% to 60% around Boston during the afternoon and evening, while some coastal and southeastern communities could see chances climb to around 65% to 75%.
Areas including Boston, Worcester, Lowell, Gloucester, Plymouth and New Bedford may experience periods of light rain Tuesday.
The rain is not expected to be continuous everywhere, but damp roads and reduced visibility during showers could affect portions of the morning and evening commutes.
Temperatures Stay in the 50s and Lower 60s
Tuesday's temperatures will remain relatively cool, with many communities struggling to climb much beyond the upper 50s and lower 60s.
Boston is forecast to reach approximately 61 degrees, while Worcester could remain near 59 degrees. Providence, Rhode Island, and other nearby Southern New England communities are also expected to experience similar conditions.
Onshore winds will contribute to the cool, damp feel, particularly along the Massachusetts coastline.
Residents traveling Tuesday should prepare for occasional wet pavement, cloudy skies and cooler conditions compared with warmer fall afternoons.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to monitor updated local forecasts as the front progresses through the region.
