BOSTON, MA — Massachusetts residents should prepare for a significant weather change heading into the weekend, with steady rain Friday followed by gusty northwest winds and unusually cold temperatures Saturday that could make daytime conditions feel like the mid 30s.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, southern New England will experience three distinctly different weather days beginning Thursday, Oct. 15, as a developing weather system moves through the region.
Thursday, Oct. 15: Dry and Seasonable
Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies and temperatures ranging from 58 to 65 degrees across the forecast area.
Morning conditions could be breezy, with wind gusts reaching 25 mph. Overnight temperatures are expected to range from 41 to 50 degrees.
Friday, Oct. 16: Steady Rain Arrives
A weather system will bring overcast skies and widespread light to moderate rain beginning Friday morning.
Rain is expected to continue through much of the day before tapering during the evening.
High temperatures will range from 58 to 70 degrees, with overnight lows between 39 and 48 degrees.
Wet roads and reduced visibility could affect travel, particularly during the morning and afternoon commutes.
Saturday, Oct. 17: Colder Air and Strong Winds
Saturday will bring the most noticeable change as colder air moves into the region behind Friday's system.
Despite sunny and dry conditions, afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach only 42 to 53 degrees.
Northwest winds could gust to 35 mph, making it feel like the mid 30s during daylight hours.
Overnight temperatures could drop as low as 28 degrees in colder locations, raising concerns about frost or freezing conditions.
