Baltimore, MD – Maryland and the Washington region will remain dry through Saturday, but the forecast could change Sunday as a tropical system moving inland from the Gulf increases the potential for rain across the Mid Atlantic.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, high pressure will maintain dry conditions through Saturday. Rain chances then increase Sunday into early next week as a tropical system over the Gulf of America weakens inland.
Current forecasts show a 40% to 70% chance of rain Sunday , followed by a 20% to 50% chance Monday .
For Baltimore, temperatures climb from 71 degrees Wednesday to 78 Thursday , followed by highs in the lower 70s Friday and Saturday. Sunday's high is forecast near 70.
Washington could reach 79 degrees Thursday before cooling to 73 Friday, 72 Saturday and 69 Sunday.
Farther west, temperatures will be cooler. Oakland is forecast to reach only 64 Sunday, while Winchester could reach 68.
The eventual track of the tropical system will be critical in determining rainfall coverage and amounts across Maryland, Washington, northern Virginia and surrounding areas. Changes to that track could shift the corridor of steadier rain before Sunday.
No rain is expected through Saturday under the current outlook, giving residents several days of favorable conditions before the pattern potentially turns wetter.
Residents across Baltimore, central Maryland, Washington and northern Virginia should monitor updated forecasts before making Sunday travel or outdoor plans as forecasters gain confidence in the tropical system's inland path.
