Baltimore, MD – Maryland’s mid October weather could feature a mix of mild afternoons, cool fall nights and opportunities for rain, with the overall Oct. 12 18 pattern leaning warmer and wetter than normal.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center’s 8 14 day outlook, issued Oct. 4, favors above normal temperatures across Maryland. Above normal precipitation is also favored during the seven day period.
Rather than signaling continuous warmth, the temperature outlook means the week as a whole is favored to average warmer than the historical norm. Cooler nights can still occur, particularly away from the Chesapeake Bay and urban areas.
Western Maryland and other normally cooler locations could experience some of the sharper nighttime temperature drops. Frost is possible during the October season when conditions are cold enough, but the CPC outlook cannot determine whether frost will occur during this particular week because it does not provide specific daily lows.
Maryland also sits within the broader wetter than normal signal. That increases the odds that precipitation for the full period will finish above normal, but it does not indicate seven straight rainy days. Rainfall amounts, storm tracks and the timing of individual systems are not provided by the CPC outlook.
From Baltimore and the Interstate 95 corridor to Western Maryland and the Eastern Shore, the broad theme is therefore warmer October weather with a wetter lean .
Residents should expect the details to change as Oct. 12 approaches. Shorter range National Weather Service forecasts will provide a clearer look at individual rain chances, daytime temperatures and whether any nighttime cold becomes sufficient for frost.
