Baltimore, MD – Residents across the Baltimore Washington region face changing weather conditions Monday, Oct. 19, as chilly overnight temperatures bring a frost threat to parts of northern Virginia while a developing coastal weather system raises concerns for boaters on Chesapeake Bay. Baltimore itself is expected to remain mostly sunny, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the upper 60s.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, a hazardous weather outlook issued Sunday, Oct. 18, identifies two concerns: frost across portions of northern Virginia and potentially dangerous marine conditions on parts of Chesapeake Bay.
Chesapeake Bay Faces Gale Watch A Gale Watch is in effect from Monday evening through Tuesday morning for waters extending from Drum Point to Smith Point and Tangier Sound.
The watch indicates conditions could become hazardous for marine travel, although the supplied outlook does not specify expected wind speeds.
Boaters and other marine operators should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts before heading onto affected waterways.
The broader hazardous weather outlook also covers Baltimore Harbor, the tidal Potomac River and other regional waterways, but the stated Gale Watch is limited to the specified southern Chesapeake waters.
Frost Threat Targets Northern Virginia A Frost Advisory begins at 1 a.m. Monday for Fairfax, Howard, Montgomery and Prince William counties in Virginia.
Patchy frost may also develop in other inland, low lying locations.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants should consider protecting vulnerable vegetation during the early morning hours.
The advisory continues through 9 a.m. Monday. The supplied outlook does not place Baltimore under a Frost Advisory.
Baltimore Forecast Calls for Sunshine Baltimore's local forecast shows sunny conditions Monday with a high near 67 degrees.
Tuesday could reach 69 degrees, with north winds around 10 mph and gusts as high as 21 mph.
Wednesday brings sunshine and a high near 64 degrees, followed by another sunny afternoon Thursday near 67 degrees.
Friday and Saturday are expected to reach the lower 60s, with Sunday warming to approximately 65 degrees.
Although Baltimore's land forecast remains relatively calm, marine conditions could be considerably more hazardous farther south on Chesapeake Bay.
Residents and boaters should monitor updated National Weather Service advisories as conditions develop.
