Baltimore, MD – Maryland's first full week of November could highlight a familiar weather divide: colder conditions in the western mountains and milder autumn weather across much of the Baltimore Washington corridor and Eastern Shore.
For residents and travelers heading toward Garrett and Allegany counties, early season snow becomes a consideration as November progresses, particularly at higher elevations.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center, outlooks issued Wednesday, Oct. 28, cover Thursday, Nov. 5, through Wednesday, Nov. 11, and describe broad temperature and precipitation probabilities.
Those outlooks do not confirm a Maryland snowstorm, widespread freeze or winter weather travel event during the period.
Western Maryland Has the Strongest Snow Potential
Oakland, McHenry and communities around Deep Creek Lake experience colder November conditions than many areas farther east.
Higher elevations near Wisp Resort and the Allegheny Mountains can receive snow when sufficiently cold air overlaps with precipitation.
Cumberland and Frostburg may experience different conditions during the same weather system because of elevation differences.
However, accumulating snowfall has not been confirmed for Nov. 5 11.
What About Baltimore and the Washington Suburbs?
Baltimore, Towson, Columbia, Frederick and Rockville can experience chilly mornings and substantial temperature changes during November.
Annapolis and communities near the Chesapeake Bay often benefit from water temperatures that moderate nearby air temperatures.
Frost or freezing temperatures remain seasonal possibilities inland, but no specific freeze event has been established for the upcoming period.
Eastern Shore Conditions Could Differ
Salisbury, Easton, Cambridge and Ocean City generally have a lower early November snowfall risk than Maryland's western mountains.
Coastal and bayside communities may experience milder overnight temperatures, although passing cold fronts can still bring cooler weather.
Travelers Should Monitor Western Routes
Interstate 68 and U.S. Route 219 cross areas where colder temperatures can affect travel when precipitation develops.
Wet roads and bridges can become slippery if temperatures fall below freezing, but no specific icing event or closure has been confirmed.
For now, western Maryland snow remains a seasonal possibility rather than a confirmed November 5 11 forecast .
Residents should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts as the period approaches.
