Baltimore, MD – Residents across the Baltimore region should prepare for a noticeable temperature drop Monday evening, October 19, as dry air and clear skies allow temperatures to fall quickly after sunset, with some surrounding areas reaching the 40s by 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, a strong area of high pressure is keeping conditions sunny, dry and relatively calm across Maryland and the surrounding region. However, the same dry air responsible for the pleasant afternoon weather will also allow temperatures to cool rapidly after dark.
At 3 p.m. Monday , temperatures across the forecast area are expected to range from 60 to 66 degrees, while mountain communities remain cooler, generally between 55 and 63 degrees.
By 6 p.m. , temperatures are forecast to fall into the 57 to 62 degree range, with mountain locations dropping to approximately 50 to 57 degrees.
The most noticeable cooling arrives later in the evening.
By 9 p.m. Monday , temperatures across the broader region are expected to range from 46 to 57 degrees, while mountain areas could experience readings between 43 and 50 degrees.
For Baltimore residents heading home from work, attending evening events or spending time outdoors, the falling temperatures may make jackets or additional layers necessary, especially later in the evening.
The National Weather Service attributes the rapid cooling to low humidity and the dry atmosphere, which allows daytime warmth to escape more efficiently after sunset.
Despite the evening temperature drop, no significant precipitation is indicated in the afternoon and evening outlook.
Clear skies and comfortable daytime conditions are expected to remain the dominant weather features under the current high pressure system.
Residents should monitor neighborhood specific forecasts, as temperatures can vary between downtown Baltimore, surrounding suburbs and higher elevations farther west.
