Baltimore, MD – A chilly overnight weather pattern could bring freezing temperatures to portions of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia this weekend, with some inland communities falling into the upper 20s while the Baltimore Washington metropolitan area remains considerably warmer.
According to temperature forecast maps shared by the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, daytime highs across the region range mainly from the upper 50s to middle 60s, while forecast overnight lows drop into the upper 20s and 30s in several western and inland locations.
Some of the coldest readings include 28 degrees near Luray, Virginia, 29 degrees near Petersburg, West Virginia, and 30 degrees around Romney and Franklin, West Virginia.
Western Maryland will also experience chilly conditions, with Oakland forecast near 32 degrees and Cumberland around 33 degrees.
Hagerstown is projected to reach approximately 33 degrees overnight, while Westminster could fall to 35 degrees.
Baltimore and Washington Stay Warmer
Conditions will be noticeably different closer to the Chesapeake Bay and the nation's capital.
Baltimore is forecast to see daytime temperatures near 63 degrees, followed by overnight lows around 50 degrees.
Washington could reach approximately 64 degrees during the day before temperatures fall to 45 degrees overnight.
Farther south, Fredericksburg, Virginia, could experience lows near 38 degrees, while Charlottesville is projected around 36 degrees.
The colder temperatures in western valleys and higher elevation communities could allow frost or localized freezing conditions to develop where temperatures fall to 32 degrees or below.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants should consider protecting them in areas expecting freezing temperatures.
Drivers heading out early should also prepare for cold conditions, particularly across western mountain communities.
