BALTIMORE, MD – A sharp temperature drop is expected across Baltimore this weekend, with overnight lows potentially falling into the upper 30s Saturday night after temperatures climb into the middle 80s Wednesday, signaling a significant shift toward colder October weather.
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, Baltimore could reach 85 degrees Wednesday before temperatures fall to a high near 57 Saturday. Saturday night's low is forecast around 39 degrees, a substantial change from the warmth earlier in the week.
NOAA's Climate Prediction Center also favors below normal temperatures across portions of the Mid Atlantic during Oct. 17 21, including the Baltimore area, as cooler air becomes established across much of the eastern United States.
The cooldown follows several days of warm conditions.
Tuesday is expected to bring patchy morning fog followed by sunshine and a high near 81 degrees. Wednesday could be even warmer, with sunny skies and a high near 85.
Temperatures begin falling Thursday, when highs are expected near 72 degrees with a slight chance of afternoon showers.
Friday brings a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures reaching approximately 78 degrees before a stronger cooldown arrives.
By Saturday, mostly sunny but breezy conditions are expected, with afternoon temperatures reaching only 57 degrees. Saturday night could bring a low around 39 degrees under mostly clear skies.
The 28 degree decline in daytime highs between Wednesday and Saturday marks a notable temperature swing for Baltimore.
Although colder air may support early season snow showers farther north in the Appalachians and Northeast, the current National Weather Service forecast for Baltimore does not include snow.
NOAA's precipitation outlook favors below normal precipitation across much of the Mid Atlantic Oct. 17 21, suggesting the cooler pattern may not produce widespread rainfall.
Baltimore residents should prepare for a transition from Wednesday's 85 degree warmth to weekend highs in the 50s and overnight lows near 39, with below normal temperatures favored through Oct. 21.
