Turner, ME – Motorists across western Maine could face temporary traffic delays Wednesday night as a massive oversized load continues its slow journey through Turner, Oxford, Gray and Buxton.
According to Maine State Police, the load made slower than expected progress Tuesday night, traveling from Jay to its first parking location in Turner but failing to reach the Jumper Bridge crossing as originally planned.
The revised schedule now calls for the load to move from Turner to Oxford Wednesday night, including the Jumper Bridge operation.
Bridge setup activities are expected to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. State police warned motorists that temporary delays may develop as crews position equipment and safely move the oversized load through the area.
The journey is expected to continue Thursday night into Friday morning, when the load is scheduled to travel from Oxford to Gray.
Police said the load will then remain staged in Gray from Friday through Sunday before resuming its trip Sunday night toward Buxton. The final movement to its delivery location is currently planned for Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Officials said transporting a load of this size through several Maine communities requires significant coordination and can create temporary traffic impacts along the route.
Motorists traveling near the moving load are encouraged to plan ahead, use caution and prepare for possible delays. The schedule could also be affected by the pace of the move and other operational conditions.
State police said residents and drivers should remain patient as crews work to complete the transport safely.
