Portland, ME – Maine is favored for a warmer and wetter than normal stretch Oct. 12 18, though chilly October nights could still bring frost where local temperatures fall low enough.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center’s 8 14 day outlook, issued Oct. 4, favors above normal temperatures across Maine during the seven day period. The outlook also favors above normal precipitation across the state.
The temperature signal does not mean every day or night will be warm. CPC outlooks compare the average temperature over the entire period with historical normals and do not provide specific daily highs or lows.
That distinction matters in Maine during October. Even within an overall warmer than normal pattern, individual nights can turn chilly. Frost would depend on local temperatures, cloud cover, wind and other conditions that cannot be determined from the 8 14 day outlook alone.
The precipitation outlook similarly indicates that wetter than normal conditions are favored over the full Oct. 12 18 period. It does not specify how much rain will fall, which days will be wet or whether rain will be continuous.
For residents making outdoor or agricultural plans, the broad signal is therefore warmer and wetter than normal , rather than a forecast for uninterrupted warmth and rain.
More precise information about daytime temperatures, overnight frost potential and individual rain systems should become available as Oct. 12 18 moves into the National Weather Service’s shorter range forecast window.
