South Portland, ME – Drivers across portions of Maine should prepare for nighttime road closures, rolling traffic slowdowns and possible delays as a large oversize transportation operation moves from Jay to South Portland over several days.
According to Maine State Police, the specialized transport operation, identified as Project 190595, involves moving an oversized load through multiple communities with law enforcement escorts and temporary bridge crossing arrangements.
Nighttime Closures Scheduled Through Monday
The transportation schedule includes an operation Thursday, October 22, beginning in Jay, with subsequent movements through Gray and Buxton before reaching South Portland.
On Sunday, October 25, crews are scheduled to begin transportation operations at 9 p.m., moving the load from Gray to Buxton.
A temporary road closure is planned around 10 p.m. for a specialized jumper bridge operation just outside Windham.
On Monday, October 26, another transport operation is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m., continuing from Buxton toward South Portland.
A second road closure is expected around 10 p.m. to accommodate another jumper bridge crossing.
Police Warn Drivers to Expect Delays
Maine State Police said approximately three to four troopers will assist with traffic control during the scheduled operations.
Motorists may encounter temporary intersection closures, reduced travel speeds, controlled traffic stops and rolling slowdowns as the convoy progresses.
The operation also includes specialized bridge installations designed to accommodate the oversized equipment during crossings.
