Gray, ME — Maine residents should prepare for two rounds of rain this week, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 13, with widespread precipitation chances reaching 95% to 100% in several communities and the possibility of wintry precipitation in western and higher elevation areas.
According to the National Weather Service office in Gray, multiple opportunities for beneficial rainfall are expected this week, although forecasters emphasize that the entire week will not be a washout.
The first round of rain is expected Tuesday, with precipitation chances increasing throughout the morning and afternoon.
Portland, Augusta, Lewiston, Brunswick area communities and several inland locations could see rain probabilities climb to 90% to 100% Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Forecast probabilities also reach 100% in locations including Belfast, Farmington, Jackson, Littleton and Rangeley during portions of Tuesday.
Rain chances remain elevated into early Wednesday, Oct. 14, before decreasing as the first system moves away.
Thursday, Oct. 15, is expected to provide a break between the two wetter periods, with the forecast graphic showing no precipitation probabilities during that day.
Another round of unsettled weather arrives Friday, Oct. 16.
The National Weather Service forecasts widespread rain chances of approximately 70% to 90% Friday across many locations, including Augusta, Concord, Manchester, Portland and parts of western Maine.
Rain chances generally decrease Saturday, Oct. 17, although scattered precipitation remains possible.
Forecasters also caution that locations farther west and at higher elevations could experience some wintry precipitation mixed with the rain.
The agency has not specified snow accumulation amounts or significant winter travel impacts in its latest update.
Drivers should prepare for wet roads and reduced visibility during periods of rainfall, particularly during morning and evening commutes.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated local forecasts as the timing and precipitation type become clearer throughout the week.
