Caribou, ME – Northern Maine residents are facing a sharp temperature drop heading into the weekend, with overnight lows expected to plunge to 23 degrees Friday, October 23, following a stretch of gusty winds across the Caribou area. The combination of freezing nighttime temperatures and winds potentially reaching 30 mph earlier in the day could make the end of the workweek feel especially cold across Aroostook County.
According to the National Weather Service office in Caribou, temperatures will reach approximately 50 degrees Thursday before falling to 45 Friday. Northwest winds could gust as high as 30 mph both days, while Friday night temperatures are forecast to drop into the lower 20s.
The coldest conditions are expected late Friday night into early Saturday morning, when temperatures could fall nearly 10 degrees below the freezing mark.
Residents in Caribou and surrounding northern Maine communities should prepare for freezing overnight conditions, particularly those with outdoor plumbing, temperature sensitive plants or early morning travel plans.

Looking farther ahead, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center temperature outlook for October 28 through November 3 places northern Maine near the boundary between near normal and above normal temperature probabilities.
The precipitation outlook favors below normal precipitation across northern Maine during the same period.
These extended outlooks describe broad weather probabilities rather than specific daily forecasts. They do not guarantee dry conditions or establish exact temperatures for individual communities.
For now, the most immediate concern is the combination of gusty Thursday and Friday weather followed by Friday night's forecast low of 23 degrees.
Residents should secure lightweight outdoor items before stronger winds develop and prepare for freezing conditions during the overnight hours.
Despite the colder nights, sunshine and a gradual daytime warmup should provide more comfortable conditions for outdoor activities Saturday and Sunday.
